Joy in doing the right thing honorably shows a caring generosity towards one's fellow man. That joy permeates throughout relationships with others and spreads actions of love. Charity's first definition in Webster's Dictionary is"benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity. It's synonym is mercy. Biblically it is a must to have faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity. Keeping ourselves healthy and balanced is important when giving, whether it is time, money, goods or service. Focusing on a meaningful purpose helps one to stay humble and avoid arrogance and pridefulness while helping others. For many people volunteering help with time, money, expertise and love gives an energizing joy and sustains happiness. Many of our institutions have prospered due to the generosity of supporters who

Changed my medical doctor since moving to Laguna Woods Village, which, fyi, just changed its name from Leisure World. My first appoinment with my new doctor began while in line watching the clock slip by my 9:20 a.m. appointment time with 4 people ahead of me. Most of us have to stand in waiting lines or sit in waiting rooms many times in our lives. Taking a negative approach will not only make lives unhappier but will most likely shorten them. You don't have to be a pollyanna about it. Who wouldn't think a lot more of management that thought a lot more of the time of the people they serve? It seems like too often in a service for salary/fee practice/business, the ones to be served are the least valued.

My favorite things on my "About Rita" page of this website had to be changed, as Ace, my cat of fifteen years died while I was holding his head. Why write about grief on a Happiness web-site? You can not have real happiness without love, and when you really love, grief will come at the loss of the loved one. It is natural to express that grief and then move on in life. There is happiness in the joy of remembrance. Fond memories bring a smile, an appreciation for having enjoyed knowing and caring for the loved one. To me, it is far sadder never to have loved. My happiness grows with fond memories of past loved ones, and deepens appreciation of loving living people and pets.

Virtues are positive traits leading to fulfillment recognized in most all cultures. Strengths are the routes to the virtues. This is a way to look at character development that is acceptable in our American School System. Counselors, teachers, administraters and parents can all use this approach to happiness to develop character in family members and students. Think "I ought to be___________. (adjective). Happiness comes in many ways and here are some recent moments of joy to share with you. Looking to the west from my garden room there was the most beautifully formed rainbow there to see and enjoy. Later my daughter saw to the east a rare double rainbow - double delight. This morning before church I saw a treasured watch from my youngest daughter was missing, and I found it by my car, unharmed. During church the man in front of us reached back to take my oldest daughter's hand during the Our Father. A humming bird fluttered and fed from a flowering bush not four feet from me. My neighbor thanked me for propping her newspaper where it is easier for her to reach and I experienced double delight as I explained it was my daughter who did that today, as I have often done. We then shared coming Thanksgiving plans with family and happy memories about our deceased husbands. Blessings abound in many ways. Share yours if you'd like to make a comment.
