This Thanksgiving will be shared with 30 plus guests in settings that include the awesome sights of Pikes Peak and the Rockies, a lakeside trail to enjoy walking while viewing them, and the InterNational FireFighters Monument/Memorial.

These contribute to moments of special joy and increase my Signature Strengths of gratitude, hope, love, spirituality and my love of coaching using Positive Psychology.

So, to my readers, my hope is you will increase your happiness by using your own Signature Strengths.

I will be out of the office for three weeks, from Nov.16th through Dec.7th.

Changing to the positive B PDF Print E-mail

The second word to think about is when the word always is used negatively. "You always do that", "I always miss the boat", and "I always lose" are some examples.

Is that really true? If something goes wrong once make it part of your learning experience. Next time it might or might not, but think how you can prevent making that mistake.

Falling short of a goal may be good to realize when you are practicing. Consider a musical composition or a baseball pitcher. Each had to overcome mistakes but we hopefully see and hear the experienced result.

When practice does not make perfect you still will have learned if you didn't stop at the first error or adopt the attitiude of "I never succeed" or "I always fail." You might learn to enjoy music and sports more as you take steps to become better. You can then adjust your sights as you experience more enjoyment in your life.

Dr. Christopher Peterson's new book:"A Primer in Positive Psychology" is a masterpiece of a textbook.

It brings the reader up-to-date- in theory and research about living a good life while teaching about past efforts to find it. He includes exercises to practice for greater life satisfaction.

This book is thoughtful, instructive and gently humorous while broadening one's outlook to include all of humanity and life.

It can benefit students, parents, teachers and anyone interested in improving their own life and that of others.

Changing to the Positive A PDF Print E-mail

Changing from using negative statements to more positive ones is not too hard to do with some worthwhile thought and reaps happy benefits.

How you use two words can help you see that fact and make an impressive difference in your life.

Never is one. Think about "you never" do this or that or to yourself "I can never" and "You'll never amount to much". There isn't much there that does amount to much and it is self-defeating, and unmotivating. In fact that negativity strikes at the heart of a person who is receiving the brunt of the unhappiness of the sender.

Reactions will vary. A few strong willed persons might take that as a challenge and rise above the block. However it still may leave a mark and does not create a good relationship with the speaker.

It is better to get rid of that form of speech and replace it with something like "What you are doing won't help you grow. Try this." More in my next blog. {moscomment}
